StudyScope is a microscope platform for science classes, built on real slides, not simulations or drawings.
It is not a study planner, a flashcard app, or an AI tutor, even though some of those have similar names.
The slides
- Source
- Every slide is a physical specimen, professionally prepared, stained, and mounted on glass, then scanned at gigapixel resolution and served as a deep-zoom image. That is why you can pan from the whole section down to single cells, always in focus.
- Catalog
- 105 slides across 6 subject areas, from plant anatomy and mitosis to blood smears, invertebrates, and human tissue, and it keeps growing. Browse the catalog without an account.
- Measuring
- Each scan records its real resolution, so the ruler reads true micrometers at any zoom.
- Labels
- Every slide page lists the stain and scan magnification, and most have a plain-language guide to what to look for.
- Credits
- A few human tissue slides are derived from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and carry that attribution; see credits.
In class
- Teachers
- Save slides to a personal library, build step-by-step lessons, or start from premade labs ready to teach.
- Live presenting
- Every student screen follows the teacher's view and annotations.
- Students
- Join with a room code at thestudyscope.com/join, on Chromebooks, iPads, or any browser. No student accounts, and no student personal information is collected.
The company
- Run by
- An independent product run by a small team in the United States. We build the viewer, the slide catalog, and the live classroom mode ourselves.
- With teachers
- We work directly with teachers: every feature starts from a real classroom problem, like a class losing half a period to blurry slides or a student who missed the lab.
- Plan
- Paid per teacher, with every feature in one plan; students are always free. Schools and districts can buy seats together. To compare it with other tools, read virtual microscope vs simulator vs digital microscope.
Directories
- EdTech Index

StudyScope is listed in ISTE's EdTech Index, a directory schools and districts use to research classroom tools. See our listing.
